Extension Activities by Faculty Members

Dr. T. P. Jose, Associate Professor in Physical Education, submitted the research report on “Effects of yogic exercises on learning disabilities”, the major research project funded by UGC in April 2015.

Dr. K. Y. Benedict, the Principal gave the key note address on the topic 'e-Learning Technology' at Aditnar College of Arts and Science Thiruthenthur on 11-09.2015

Dr. Giby Geevarughese, Associate Professor, received nomination to the College Management Council from the Archbishop Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos.

Dr. Joju John, Assistant Professor, addressed 300 teachers of the Holy Family Sisters, Thrissur on the topic, ‘Training in Art of Teaching’ in August 22^nd 2015.

Ms. Anu Rachel Jogi, Assistant Professor M.Ed. Department, presented paper titled, ‘Awareness on Neuromyths in Education among Teachers’ at the UGC sponsored National Seminar ‘Professionalizing Psychology, Current Trends’ held in KE College of Arts and Science, Mannanam.

Awareness Programme by Snake master Vava Suresh

A special awareness programme on snakes was organized by second semester Natural Science Association, Green Café.  The highlight of the the programme was the talk by professional snake catcher Vava Suresh who exhibited live snakes to create awareness about  one of the most feared creatures on earth . An array of both venomous and non venomous snakes were exhibited which ranged from the harmless rat snake and water snake to the fearsome viper, cobra and python. His passion and concern for the snakes helped in understanding that snakes are also creations of nature and that they  have a rightful place in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem

 

 

 

 

Nature trip

The one day trip for the B. Ed. Second semester students were conducted on the 11^th September. The students were accompanied by Dr. Joju John and Mrs. Deepthi Elizabeth Mathew to Peppara dam and Palode Botanical Garden. At the Peppara dam, with the assistance of the Forest Dept.  a nature walk was arranged. The students were allowed to walk about half a kilometer into the forest where the site of nature camp was set up by the authorities. On the way they were introduced to a few of the many flora and fauna that populates and maintains the balance of the ecosystem.

After lunch the team was taken to Palode Botanical garden, which is a treasure trove of fantastic greens that are literally the life givers of the entire planet. The special research wing of the garden was also visited where a lot of high end research is being conducted on the latest developments in field of science with special focus on hybrids and biotechnology. 

Social visit to Shalom

As part of their curricular requirement, the first semester B.Ed. students visited shalom, the home for children with special needs on 10^th September, 2015. Staff Coordinators, Dr. Giby Geevarughese and Dr. Joju John accompanied the students. They had the opportunity to interact with children with autism, Down syndrome, learning disabilities and varying degrees of MR. Interaction with authorities and care takers of these children provided an insight into the methods and techniques adopted to cater to the special needs of these children. A variety of entertainment programmes were conducted by both the teacher trainees and the children from Shalom which was a reminder that these children are not ‘handicapped’ in any way and that they deserve empathy not sympathy. The B. Ed. Teacher trainees distributed sweets and sponsored the day’s snacks for the evening tea.

 

 

 

 

Cultural visit to Heritage sites

The first semester B.Ed. students visited Kuthiramalika and Rangavilasom palace, heritage sites in the heart of the city on 11^th September. Dr. Bindu D. and Dr. Ancy A.S. accompanied the students for the visit which is one of the requirements included in the newly revised curriculum. Kuthiramalika, an architectural structure that portrays the excellence of workmanship in the erstwhile Travancore era is always an awe inspiring view. The students were given a tour of the palace with the guide who explained both the architectural and historic importance of the palace and its previous occupants. This was followed by a tour of the art and photo gallery where the paintings and photographs of the Royal Family along with various royal artifacts were preserved behind specially constructed glass chambers. The trip was a reminder of the glory of the bygone era.

 

 

Dreams and Innovations

On the 9^th September, 2015 the second semester students of Physical Science students conducted an exhibition titled ‘Dreams and Innovations’. The students presented models of the classroom of their dreams, some of which were futuristic and others environment friendly. All the dreams had one common goal, providing the best learning experience e to the pupil. The exhibits also included innovative evaluative tools and learning aids such as game based group activities, computer assisted quizzing, and toy like learning aids. The overflow of creative ideas presented in the exhibition was definitely inspiring to both teachers and students who came.  Special appreciation is due to the students for their efforts.

Teacher’s day

A tribute to our former president Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the teacher’s day, was celebrated in the college on the 7^th September. The College Union Chairman made a video presentation and gave away mementos to all the teachers.

Retreat for the M.Ed. students

On the 4^th September, 2015 both the first semester and second semester M.Ed. students along with their teachers went on a trip to the backwaters of Alappuzha. It was an opportunity for the first semester students to mingle with the seniors and a well deserved break for the second semester students from the hectic thesis work. The boat trip, the beautiful scenery, the large expanse of water and fresh breeze was all a balm to the body, mind and soul.

Sargalaya Arts fest 2015

The arts and literary competitions were held in the college from 3^rd to 8^th September. Literary items included essay writing, short story writing and versification in Malayalam, Hindi and English. Pencil drawing was also included as one of the items. The literary items were conducted in afternoon session on 3^rd and 4^th.

The art items included light music, recitation, elocution, mimicry, mono act, tableau, ‘kathaprasangam’, fancy dress and group song which were held in two venues: Keli and Nadanam on the 7^th of September. On the 8^th there were competitions in folk dance, group dance, thiruathira dance and skit.

The participants were B.Ed students of 2014-15 batch who entertained the rest of the college with their spectacular performance.

Dr. T. P. Jose, Associate Professor in Physical Education won his first International Tournament in Lawn Bowls against Singapore.

MTTC Welcomed Mahabali

Onam Celebrations were held with much pomp and show in the college campus. A beautiful ‘Pookalam’ (Floral Design) was arranged in the portico of the college. There were a lot of activities such as ‘Onapaattu’ competition, ‘Thiruvathira’ dance by the teachers. Onam message by the Bursar, Fr. Thomas Kayalackkal, the scrumptious Onasadya and an array of Onam Games including ‘Vadamvali’ (tug –of- war) between Staff and Students. It was a lively day of fun and was much enjoyed by all gathered.

Talk on current practices under SSA

Mrs. Shyla  Bhai, SSA Trainer from Kaniyapuram Block Resource Centre gave a talk on the Central Government project,  SSA and its practices in the primary and secondary school system. Special focus was given to Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act, inclusive education, SSA interventions, funding and its current objectives.

            It was a highly informative and interactive session which gave the students a relatively direct perspective about the current educational policy and practices.
